Avengers were created in the early 60s by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The first comic book introduced Avengers in 1963. The first Avengers were Iron Man, Ant-man and the Wasp, Hulk, and Thor.
In this article, I’m going to talk about the Avengers, their first appearance in the comics, the superheroes that featured in both the Marvel comic book universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, along with some of the best battles the team can have up till now.
So, make sure you read this article till the very end if you want to learn everything you need to know about the Marvel Avengers.
Who Created the Avengers Comic
In the early 60s, comic books were getting all the attention of children and adults out there because of the fascinating element of fantasy and power associated with them, especially superhero comic books, and Marvel was having a great season back then.
At this point in time, the creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby realized that individual superhero comics would get boring at some point because of the power dynamic.
So that’s where the thought of creating a Marvel team comic book came up.
Both Stan and Jack understood the need for a band of superheroes that could face threats far greater than any single one of them had faced, and that’s when in 1963, the first issue of the Avengers comic book was released, and it made a lot of people very happy.
In fact, the Avengers was one of the best-selling comic book issues of all time, and Stan Lee knew that the Avengers were globally renowned and popularised from that point onwards.
And that’s exactly what happened. As a result, the Marvel Avengers became known to be one of the most iconic superhero bands of all time.
That’s why nowadays, every child, adult, and senior citizen almost all around the entire world knows about Iron Man, Hulk, and other superheroes, and their collective team as the Avengers alliance.
How Were the Avengers Formed
The Avengers alliance was formed to tackle all evil forces that threatened the universe’s balance, but that’s not it. In both comics and movies, the Avengers creation and members were very different.
So, what I’m going to do is tell you about both the initiations of the Avengers team in the comic books as well as their creation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Let’s take a look.
Avengers Formation in the Comics
In the 1960s, Thor’s brother, Loki had plans to utilize Thor as a pawn to harm his brother and to destroy the peace of the Earth, but with the help of the Ant-man, Iron man, and the likes, they were able to defeat the god of evil Loki.
After taking care of this threat, Ant-man suggested that since this group of superheroes works so well together, they should be named as an official team of superheroes, and the Wasp is who suggested the name, Avengers.
Avengers Formation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
In the MCU, the first intergalactic level threat arrived on Earth in the city of New York, in the form of Loki, the god of mischief.
He came to destroy the planet with his Chitauri army and gain access to the Tesseract.
When he was able to claim the Tesseract, Nick Fury, a former member of the S.H.E.I.L.D organization, brought the best heroes from around the world and created a team called the Avengers.
With parallels of Thor, Iron Man, and Hulk, these Avengers ended up defeating Loki and thousands of his army members and saved the city of New York and the world with the help of each other, marking the first appearance of the team on the big screen.

Avengers vs X-men
Fighting over the purpose of the Phoenix Force approaching the Earth, the Avengers and the X-men converge and end up fighting each other. This led to one of the most iconic crossover events in Marvel comic book history. A few X-men have even joined the Avengers team at times in the comic book, so the two factions have been back and forth with each other.
The infinity gauntlet comics were the most popular at the time. These issues featured the Mad Titan Thanos, his infinity gauntlet, and the soul gems. The Avengers were pitted against Thanos and his Black Order for the fate of the universe and saving the lives of half of the people in the world.

Tony Stark was able to find the loophole for time travel, and the team went back in time with the help of the Pym particles Ant-man gave them.
They were able to get all the infinity stones and snapped everyone back into existence but also brought Thanos himself into the future.
This is where the ultimate war took place, and the Iron Man destroyed Thanos and all his army with his version of the Infinity gauntlet snap.
